You’re probably familiar with the minimalist decorating movement. But are you familiar with the Maximalists and maximalist decor? Very little, if at all, trending in France, these Instagram accounts offer us very colorful and busy decor while remaining harmonious and balanced.
The end of the minimalist diktat?
If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of “tidying everything up, hiding everything away” then maximalism may be for you. But be careful, maximalist doesn’t mean messy. Rather, it’s about displaying your collections and all the objects you love, from floor to ceiling, in a beautiful harmony of colors.
Minimalist and Scandinavian decor accounts never cease to make us feel guilty, as we like to see our objects accumulated, collected over the years and sometimes inherited. You might say that a maximalist interior is harder to store and maintain. No doubt, but it’s also an opportunity to move things around, to change and evolve the décor with the seasons, which seems difficult in a minimalist interior.
Perhaps the minimalist interior is where you sleep, while the maximalist is where you live?
To make a success of your maximalist decor, you need..:
- A harmony of colors
- A repetition of a basic pattern or color
- Patterns on the floor or walls, e.g. a floral tapestry, several paintings on the same wall
- Don’t overdo the knick-knacks
- Green plants
You can also create your own maximalist decor in an eclectic vintage style. Another trend in fashion in 2024.
