25 ideas for a small garden in the city. You don’t need a big garden to enjoy gardening. You can even have a vegetable garden!
Before I had a big garden, I had a small one. It’s not as ambitious as a big garden, but it’s quicker to achieve something cosy and pretty. You can add pots, which are easy to water because it’s small. The grouping of pots adds a charming touch. What’s more, the pots can be renewed regularly, so you’ll always have a nice view from the windows.
My little garden in the city

The difficulty lies in keeping this type of garden moist. As there is a garage under the residence, the garden is actually laid on concrete and has only 50 cm of soil. That’s enough for most plants, even a Pierre de Ronsard rose, but you have to water it regularly as if it were a big window box. You also need to fertilize more often than with a plantation in the ground, especially as you tend to plant tightly to create a permanently flowering environment, isolate yourself from neighbors and protect yourself from neighbours.

You can also have a small vegetable patch in a small garden.
To save space, you can grow in large containers, vegetable squares or high up. For example, I’ve grown potatoes in a large pot. Children really enjoy growing potatoes.
Retailers are now offering quite a few original and practical solutions for vertical vegetable gardens, enabling you to grow vegetables and fruit (especially strawberries) even on a balcony.
